Sketch A Day 34

I had the idea for a little while now to try and combine the week of sketches into one and this is the first attempt.

The idea behind doing a sketch a day was for practice and fun. When I was drawing just for myself making samples and mini comics this was working fine but now that I have more to do and started doing some assistant work I’m seeing a significant decline in each sketch. And then when I have to do research, like on the Hellboy characters, my sketching time gets even more cramped. So I started thinking that if I’m not having much fun and not doing a very good job something needs to change.  I really like the idea of continually producing something and I like the idea of sketching characters and things I wouldn’t normally. Like I’ve never drawn Calvin, Hellboy, or The Colonel from Akira before. I also liked the idea of making it up to posts like Sketch A Day 1039. But I think I’d like to focus more on the quality of the product I’m making and build something a little more substantial.

I’m thinking of changing to this-

Mini comic page a week- this would come in place of the Sketch A Days. It would focus on the same original goals of drawing something I find fun and continuing to hone my skills.  Plus, when its done I have a satisfying product.

Revolution: Dream page a week- The same as I’ve been doing.

Sketch A Day- not to be totally abandoned, I would draw some fun stuff whenever I wanted. That way I can still make my 1039 goal. Although the name loses its purpose but I wasn’t posting on the weekends anyway so it never was true.

I think it sounds good. It’s good to be able to push yourself to deadlines, but if you’re not happy with the way they’re turning you shouldn’t obligate yourself. A mini comic page would be perfect because you can work on it here and there during the week. Besides you should focus on your assistant work.
